Artist's Comments

This photo was taken using Black & White film.
The major effect of the liquid was done by hand painting the developer onto the emulsion immediately after exposing the print. It was then cast directly into the developer bath for under-development (just enough to get a hint of background). The rest of the chemicals were normal.

The color tone was achieved using Berg Toners.

All the highlights on the liquid were airbrushed onto the actual print after drying.

Everything is normal except the development and retouching afterword.

Tools needed:
*Darkroom.
*fiber based photographic paper
*Q-tip (for painting developer)
*toner (if desired, but not necessary)
*airbrush - or you can use white stabilo pencil on a budget (for highlights)

What part do you want to know?

I don't know exactly how you do it, but it's excellent. I don't think I could ever be that good.

Interesting technique, I'll definitely have to try that sometime. It makes what was probably a pretty ordinary picture into kind of an abstract puzzle piece. I'm staring at the faint background trying to see the rest of the pic now :)
